SBIR Phase III refers to work that extends or completes prior SBIR Phase I or Phase II efforts, funded from non-SBIR sources. It is not funded by the SBIR programme itself and carries no cap on value, duration or number of awards. Phase III contracts can be awarded by any federal agency and are authorised by statute to proceed without further competition.
