About
Japan's SBIR (Small/Startup Business Innovation Research) programme is a government scheme that directs research and development funding to small businesses and startups. Reformed in 2021 under Cabinet Office coordination, it sets cross-ministry spending targets and supports commercialisation of innovative technologies. The programme is modelled on the longstanding US SBIR scheme.
