1517 Fund is a venture firm founded in 2015 by Danielle Strachman and Michael Gibson, both early staff on the Thiel Fellowship. It backs college dropouts and deep-tech scientists at the idea and seed stages, writing first cheques from $50,000 to $1m. The firm manages over $175m across four funds and more than 100 companies. Holdings include the lidar firm Luminar and the engineering-software company nTop.
